All projects are funded through the Education Foundation's Innovative Grants program. The purpose of the Innovative Grants program is to encourage educators to identify and develop effective solutions to significant educational challenges.

Any employee of the Prince William County School Division is eligible to apply for funding from the Education Foundation. All applications should be consistent with the school's Annual Plan, the Prince William County Standards of Quality and Performance Standards (Quality Management Plan) and the Virginia Standards of Learning.

Grant applications are reviewed two times a year. Proposals must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on the first of November or April to be considered in that funding cycle.

Tips for Successful Grants

Successful proposals:

• Speak to the interests/priorities of the funder
• Address the school/organization's real needs
• Are based upon research/evidence
• Clearly identify who will benefit
• Explain the importance and outcomes of the program
• Include measurable outcomes
• Explain the evaluation process and methods
• Are brief and easy to read
• Move from the general to the specific
• Do not use unnecessary technical language or jargon
• Request funds within the funder's scope
• Explain all income sources/funding strategies
• Address continuation of program beyond grant period

Unsuccessful proposals:

• Assume all funders operate the same way
• Fail to prove a need
• Fail to identify outcomes, how the project will make a difference
• Assume the funder knows the organization
• Have no follow-up
• Are submitted without regard to the funder's interests/restrictions
• Use a shotgun approach, blank proposals
• Fail to follow instructions
• Are incomplete
• Are disorganized
• Are too lengthy
• Have an unrealistic budget
• Offer no continuing funding plans
• Do not meet submission deadline
