Winners of the 2008 Dr. Edward L. Kelly Memorial Scholarship Announced
The Prince William County Public Schools Education Foundation congratulates the recipients of the 2008 Dr. Edward L. Kelly Memorial Scholarship. They are Kristen Engles from Gar-Field High School, Ashley Libby from Woodbridge High School, and Tyler Walrabenstein from Osbourn Park High School.
The scholarship is for $1,000 to students pursuing a degree in teaching. It is only awarded to three students out of the entire county, and there are rigorous requirements to be eligible. Only two students from each high school may apply. They must be graduating seniors, submit their transcripts, plan to enroll in an accredited community college or a four-year college or university, maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average, and demonstrate leadership and commitment to the community through involvement in extracurricular activities.
The PWCS Education Foundation established the scholarship in honor of Dr. Edward L. Kelly, who served as superintendent of Prince William County Public Schools for 18 years. This is the second year that scholarships have been awarded by the Foundation in the late superintendent’s honor.
